What do I need to run PIES Private AI on my computer?
PIES Private AI Micro is the language model included free with PIES Studio Hobby. It runs on your own computer. These are the real requirements, not the marketing ones:
- Memory: 12 GB minimum. Micro will not switch on below this. 16 GB is recommended.
- Disk: 6 GB free for the one-time model download (about 4.9 GB), on top of about 3 GB for the Studio itself.
- Speed: fast on Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later), where it uses the GPU. On Intel Macs, Windows and Linux it runs on the CPU only, at a few words a second. It works, but it is slower.
- Internet: once, for the model download. After that it is fully offline.
PIES Studio Hobby itself needs macOS 13 or later (Apple Silicon or Intel), Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, or Linux x64, with 8 GB of memory if you don’t switch Micro on.
What Micro can do: chat, questions over your data, in-app chatbots for the apps you build, small edits, and building one screen, data model or event at a time. Whole-application builds need a bigger model: your own cloud AI key, or PIES Private AI Lite and Ultra through PIES Enterprise or PIES Cloud.
