Is PIES Studio Hobby really free? What are the limits?
Yes. PIES Studio Hobby is free forever. There is no trial clock, no card and no usage meter. It is the same editor as Enterprise, with the complete builder, the built-in database, local builds, all 35 templates, mobile app generation, code export and PIES Private AI Micro.
These are the limits, stated plainly:
- A free PIES account is needed to download it. We use it to tell you about updates. The app itself never needs to sign in and works offline.
- One user. Hobby has no teams, roles, boards or shared workspaces.
- The local AI is small. PIES Private AI Micro handles chat, questions over your data, in-app chatbots, small edits and building one screen, data model or event at a time. Whole-application builds need a bigger model: your own cloud AI key, or PIES Enterprise or PIES Cloud.
- No production deployment from the Studio. Apps run locally in Hobby. You can export the source and host it yourself anywhere; deploying from the Studio to Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or Azure is Enterprise.
- No hosted agents, Git push, SSO or full governance and audit. Each of these shows a padlock in Hobby and says what unlocks it.
- Not open source. PIES Studio’s own source is private. The source of the apps you build is yours.
Everything you build in Hobby carries over to Enterprise if you ever need a team or a server.
